The nightclub based at Riverside Norwich, formerly known as Lava/Ignite is to reopen in February, and will be relaunched with the name Project. Official Rumble Facebook update states:
“GOOD NEWS RUMBLERS KEEP YA EYES AN EARS OPEN FOR EASTER BANK HOLIDAY SUNDAY, NEW CLUB NEW YEAR NEW BEGINING FOR US AGAIN….HAPPY DAYS!!”
This status update also led to the comment:
“its in norwich, 1900 cap club but we’re going to do a joint venture!!!with another old face!!!”
After some research only a few places in Norwich fit the capacity suggestion – Mercy and the new Project nightclub. As for “old face”, could it be DJ Dimension! A once Rumble resident, famous for his tight mixing ability and Mickey Finn collab jump up dubs. Any ideas?
Both the nightclub and the Hollywood Bowl were shut in 2007 due to structural issues. Despite the owners X-Leisure filing a £20m lawsuit against the contractors, an out-of-court settlement was achieved. This basically meant that the night-club and the bowling alley had a complete refurbishment.
It seems the local quality-drum-and-bass-night drought is over. Color, the new “diverse” hiphop/funk/fidget/dubstep/grime/dnb night launched at the Waterfront in October, has already provided some great nights. It’s also acquiring runnin’ dnb DJs back to Norwich including DJ Hype, Bailey, Shy FX, Dillinja and more. Also the veritable queen of jungle, DJ Rap and old school legend Ellis Dee are on the lineup in January – good times! Personally, I like the Waterfront, it’s relative smallness adding a cosier appeal to proceedings – with the DJ/MC’s close to the crowd. It’s sound system may not boom as much as it used to, but it’s certainly crisp and clear. Although maybe our nanny state regulations means it can’t be turned up any more? I have many times experienced the dripping sweat from low ceilings when at it’s capacity… mmm, but to be honest, even the UEA LCR did that. Although the reason for this is down to just that – capacity. Of the 2 Color nights i’ve been to so far, i’ve yet to see a capacity crowd. Could it be the ticket prices putting people off? Are less people allowed in? A lack of interest in the current state of DNB? (which is very good in my opinion) Or is the dubstep? (haha, sorry dubstep fans!) Actually is dub step the main draw? If i’m honest though a capacity crowd doesn’t necessarily make an event – it gives you a bit more room to shake ya body!
Being a Rumble veteran, my spiritual home for the dance night will always be the UEA LCR (which started in 1999 – yep, i know i’m old). Rumble, which started at the Waterfront in 1997, also moved on to other venues in later years including Liquid/Fuel Nightclub on Prince of Wales and the Atlantis Arena in Yarcooo (extra o’s mine). While not the best venues in Norfolk, Rumble have had to deal with a lulls in the DNB scene too. A short history of Rumble can be read in the Bio here.
While there’s been other DNB nights in recent times and yesteryear, such as the excellent Camouflage in the tiny Manhattans Nightclub (now Spearmint Rhino!) and Bounce, it’s been a while since Norwich has seen a bigger event.
So what can we can we expect from the a new Rumble night in Norwich… the Rumble dancers, the decor, the inflatables, the lighting, the Rumble sound system, the top bill DJs, the vibe? Let’s hope with 15 years of experience in the game, Rumble can bring it all back!

P.S. Shall update this post if my new Rumble venue prediction is correct

Good read mate!
I’ll leave the Rumble speculation for the mo as all will be revealed soon.
Glad your enjoying Color so far we’re really happy with how its all been going, Alas sound systems aren’t allowed to be as loud as they once were but the new 35grand system is crisper than a hoi sin duck! As for crowd size the last 2 events have seen between 700-850 happy ravers at each of them which in a 900 capacity club isn’t too bad going.
This year we have some very big plans for Color inc Color presents Hospitality featuring a very special guest who has until now been near on impossible to bring to Norwich. We also have some very big album launch parties coming up and will be flying in some of the biggest artists from other parts of the world.
All in all there are some very big plans for Rumble & Color in 2011 as we aim to put Norwich back on the underground map of the UK

Awesome news. Thanks for the reply. Loving the news on the Hospitality event. Went to Hospitality for the first time last year and loved it. London is blessed with epic venues we can only dream of in little Norwich.
Looking forward to the plans! Good work.

nope not bringing old DJ’s back Dimension was good at scratchin but not so sure abt the tight mixin bit but that aside the new night will be two old event duo’s so sit tight an wait an see, Color has been epic in the way of getting the fresh faced ravers in norwich loving the waterfront as there still is a few years of students that have missed out on such a good underground dance club…dubstep n dnb seem to work well together at our new baby…which being fresh an inovative seems to have paid off numbers have been going up an £10 in advance has been the same price since the late 90′s so if any thing the ravers are getting more value now than ever, if you did some research you’ll see the venue hire is high an artists hourly rates are disgusting in some cases so i think thats a bad thing to say that people are put off by the door tax, its like anything wouldnt you rather pay a little extra for a higher class night????!!!!instead of £7 for one name at say lola lo or knowhere????!!!no brainer really…….

I want to see the night full, as I remember the “road block” days. The days where you needed a ticket or you had to gamble a place on the door. I was just putting some suggestions out there. You guys are doing an awesome job, i wouldn’t be writing a post if I didn’t want Rumble/Color to do well! Also i’m more than happy to pay the ticket price. Quality matters. The same goes for restaurants. In most cases (hopefully) you get what you pay for. The line-up for the next Color already exceeds the ticket price.
