Forward Norwich – New Roots Reggae Event with a side of DNB in a New Norwich Venue

UPDATE (19/02/11): The venue has now been announced and Forward will be held at St Walstan Hall at the Norfolk Showground, Norwich.

Hot on the heels of the Rumble rumours another mystery night pops up on Facebook. Those pesky club promoters are at it again! :)

This time we’re promised a new venue for a new night called Forward. But pray tell, where is it going to be held? Well that’s all part of the mystery. The Facebook group organisers will be revealing the new Norwich venue when the group gains 1000 members. Whereas Color fuses drum and bass with dubstep n’ tings, Forward from what I can see by this event, looks to bring together drum and bass/jungle with roots/reggae/dub. So basically, hyper hyper chill chill! The night appears to be organised by the Free King Sound System crew. They’re the ones responsible for the reggae nights at Knowhere for which i’ve had the pleasure of attending a few times. The details for the event below, which sees the return of another dj legend – Ray Keith. But note… the dominance here is full force roots reggae with Channel One and Free King dominating Room 1.

So, we get back to that burning question again, where will it be? Well, we’ll find out soon enough, but for some reason Open Norwich popped into my head for this one. The venue underwent a £12m renovation to transform it into the state-of-the-art Youth Venue recently. Or maybe it will be in the middle of Knowhere

So to help them on their way, why not join the Forward Norwich group. At time of writing they’ve got 294 members. Norwich’s dance music scene  is certainly flourishing lately… good times!

In room one we bring you a leading roots reggae entertainer & 2010 Red Bull Culture Clash winner Channel One Sound System alongside Norwich based Free King Sound System featuring Prince Livi Jah & Dandelion – Two sound systems in one arena playing in a unity style.

Time to look Forward

Frank’s Bar Norwich – Far more than a cafe bar

I remembered when Frank’s Bar opened way back. This brought something fresh and new to the range of cafes in Norwich. Having just set up Norwich Index around the same time it opened I vouched to write a review. However, life got in the way, and thus my review did not happen. Until… now that is.

Frank's Bar Norwich

Frank’s Bar needs very little introduction. A testament to it’s success is that fact that it’s still here today. For those that haven’t heard of it Frank’s Bar does things differently to most cafes. Frank’s Bar has a fun side to it, with quirky front-room decor and welcoming staff. To be served you’ll need a table, don’t let this put you off, as this means they can make the most of your custom.

Having popped in on a lunch break to satisfy my challenge, I enjoyed ciabatta filled with antipasti vegetables, Cannellini bean pate and rocket leaves all for a reasonable price – arriving promptly too :) The menu is wide and satisfies both vegetarians and meat eaters. Also if you get down there in the morning you can take advantage of their superb Breakfast Club Menu.

There’s a great range of drinks on offer here and any place that stocks Havana Club rum gets a +1 in my book. If you’re a fan of board games there’s a superb selection to keep you amused.

Being a music fan, Frank’s Bar does not disappoint. They play a great mix of tunes all cleverly updated to a Last.fm account. They’re open to suggestions and if you’re an iPhone owner you can vote for music too.

Another genius idea is their afternoon films which are shown in the back room. Keep an eye on the schedule for movie classics.

Frank’s Bar is a fun cafe bar, with good food, happy staff, top drinks, games, movies and cheer.
