Essence Norwich – A fuse of Bar, Restaurant and Club

Clubs are popping up left, right and centre in Norwich. The latest edition is Essence. Can you remember Fatso’s on Prince of Wales Road in Norwich? Well that’s gone now and it’s now the location for Essence which is looking to provide a bar, nightclub and restaurant all in one. Walking past it today, while walking to work, the old Fatso’s signs of yore have been taken down.

The club’s interior has also been designed by Gordon Thompson, an international designer, which has created a range of different zones in the establishment.

What with Qube launching on the Easter Weekend and now Essence what will be next to join the city? Rumour has it that the now closed Magic City amusements has been bought out (i think by the Mercy owners??).

Local Charities Doing Good

Hello all,

I was reading the Local Life section of the Norwich Evening News and was pleased that there’s so much great charity work going on in the city.

Here’s a run down:

Chatterbox Norwich

Chatterbox is a talking newspaper which helps the blind and partially sighted get their dose of the news. News reports are recorded in MP3 format and are free to download from the site. They’ve been running for over 30 years! Congratulations!

Great Ormond Street Hospital

It’s not a local charity but it’s being supported by local yummy Norwich restaurant Tooties. They’re helping raise funds for the hospital. Every junior burger will help add £1 to the charity funds. So far they’ve managed to raise £1400 and pledge will continue to the end of the month.

Go for a meal soon to help support the hospital. Tootsies can be found at the Chapelfield Shopping Centre in Norwich.

Keep up all the great work!

The Scullery Bar in Norwich

A New Norwich Bar

After some well earned end of the week drinks in the Nelson and then Hahas my other half and i had a look around for somewhere to eat. We were initially going to go to Cafe Uno but we’d forgot the 20% off card. So off we rambled towards the direction of home. St Benedict’s Street is on the way which has developed into quite a funky area of the city now. We decided to go to Pinocchio’s in the end. We had a lovely meal there. More details to be added in another post i feel.

It was looking for a place to eat that we stumbled upon The Scullery Bar. After entering a tiny side door near the steps between the church and The Kitchen restaurant we were amazed to see a fantastic basement bar! After speaking to the barman we found it had only been open 3 days! It will continue to open Monday to Saturday from 5pm to 1am. There’s a cool selection beers and cocktails on offer and the relaxed decor with leather sofas is instantly relaxing.

Managed to get a flyer so i’ll add some info:

Mondays – Student Night with cheap drinks

Tuesday – Ladies Night (half price drinks for ladies between 8 and 10 pm)

Last Wednesday of every month ‘Comedy Night’

Live blues and jazz on Saturdays.

Shots: £1.25 / Doubles £2.00 / Cocktails £3.00

Contact the bar at: 01603 625777

This was a great find and we hope to go back soon. I can see this becoming very popular although i’m not quite it will gain Frank’s Bar cult status.
